AI Policy
AI Policy
While the journal does not have an explicitly anti-AI policy, all papers must pass quality control in order to be sent out for peer review, and must pass peer review in order to be published. Papers generated by and/or with the use of Large Language Models (LLMs) often exhibit a lack of analytical rigor, a failure to adequately interact with ongoing scholarly conversations on their topic, an over-reliance on point-form structuring, and spurious or dishonestly-cited bibliographic entries. As part of the submission process, we ask that authors disclose the use of AI in the production of their manuscripts and we reserve the right to decline submissions if we suspect undeclared or improper use of AI. Where available, URLs for the references must be provided; doi.org links are strongly preferred. Authors with questions about this AI policy or about their use of AI may send them to ledger.editors@pitt.edu. The editors reserve the right to refuse to publish work that has made dishonest use of AI at any point in the publication process, up to and including retraction after publication.
