Ten years ago, when we started on this venture, the field of cryptocurrency and blockchain research was in its infancy. When the journal was formed, it was with the idea that we could provide a “sober second look” at the discourse online, a peer-reviewed alternative to self-published whitepapers, Medium articles, and Twitter threads. Our focus would be the study of the new technologies arising from the brave new world of Bitcoin and its heirs and successors, and the ways in which those new technologies have changed the world we live in. Writing this at the close of our little journal’s tenth year of publication, I can say with pride that we have done what we set out to accomplish. 

In the past ten years, we’ve published 74 articles and a total of 1151 pages of peer reviewed research. Those articles have been downloaded and read thousands and thousands of times. But the number we are most proud of is 161. That’s the number of authors who have trusted us to publish their work, and that we have had the distinct honor of sharing with you, our readers, over the last decade.

Just this year, we’ve published another eight peer-reviewed articles by nineteen authors: a review of current literature on blockchain technology literacy tests by Lukas Weidener and Bence Lukács; a design for a more decentralized form of blockchain by Zhuo Liu; most recently a study on cointegration between bitcoin spot ETF assets and the price of Bitcoin; we’ve published two invited papers from the INATBA Blockchain Horizons conference, “A Framework for the Profitable Integration of Distributed Ledger Technologies in Enterprise Networks” by Tan Gürpinar, Michael Henke, and Boris Düdder, and “Blockchain for Democratic Justice: Innovating the Service of Judicial Documents to Uphold the Rule of Law” by Ioannis Revolidis, Marica Ciantar, and Joshua Ellul; and three invited papers from our ongoing partnership with the annual ChainScience conference, “Tracing Cross-Chain Transactions Between EVM-Based Blockchains: An Analysis of Ethereum-Polygon Bridges” by Tao Yan, Chuanshan Huang, and Claudio J. Tessone, “Non-Fungible Programs: Private Full-Stack Applications for Web3” by Blake Regalia and Benjamin Adams, and “Investigating Similarities Across Decentralized Finance (DeFi) Services” by Junliang Luo, Stefan Kitzler and Pietro Saggese.
